Immersion Announces New Haptics Solution for Mass Market Devices
TouchSense® 2100 to Simplify Touch Feedback Through Integration With
ICs
SEATTLE & SAN JOSE, Calif., May 24, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Today at the SID International Symposium, Immersion Corporation (NASDAQ:IMMR), the leading developer and licensor of haptics technology, announced a new solution to power touch feedback effects in user experience designs for mass market, touch screen-enabled applications. The newest product in the TouchSense 2000 Series, the TouchSense 2100 is designed for custom integrated circuit solutions to provide a rich palette of haptics effects to deliver experiences that inject feel into touch screens. SID Display Week 2010 exhibition attendees can visit Immersion at Booth #135 in the Washington State Convention Center.
As momentum for touch-based interfaces increases, Immersion's haptics technology provides tactile confirmation to restore "feel" to new designs, making interactions more intuitive and satisfying. The TouchSense 2100 solution supports integrated and advanced UIs and touch gesture-based interactions and may be implemented to provide feedback in touchpads, capacitive buttons, touch screens and virtual keyboards.
"As touch interfaces become ubiquitous across a broad range of devices, we see a need to introduce solutions that are tailor-made for a broad range of applications. Device manufacturers are looking for an easy-to-implement haptics solution that provides the right haptic effects for the user interface," said Craig Vachon, senior vice president and general manager of Immersion. "IC integration is the best way to quickly address the growing demand for our haptics technology in a broad range of markets. With the TouchSense 2100 we are broadening our offerings to chip vendors to address the varied market demands."

The TouchSense 2100 solution is suitable for small screen applications and offers compelling haptic performance, a compact form factor and low power draw. The solution will be brought to market as off-the-shelf haptic processors from Immersion's chip partners, or the TouchSense 2100 can be ported to a device manufacturer's specific chip to add haptics to their solution. The TouchSense 2100 solution is currently available and is expected to begin shipping in partners' products in the second half of 2010.
Also at SID Display Week 2010 today, Immersion's chief technology officer, Christophe Ramstein, will participate in a panel discussion at the SID DisplaySearch Business Conference. "Session III: Touch" will focus on trends and is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Convention Center. It will include several industry executives and DisplaySearch's Jennifer Colegrove will moderate.
